Yesterday, March 14, more commonly known as pi day, is celebrated each year by mathematicians and pun lovers around the globe because not only is it the birthday of Albert Einstein, but the date resembles the first three digits of the infamous mathematical number pi when the month and day are numerically written.

In honor of national Women in Construction Week (WIC) which runs from March 7-13 and includes International Women's Day, Capitol Tech is including a profile on Rita Brown, a current female construction leader, as part of the university’s women in STEM series taking place all March for Women’s History Month.

Dr. Radia Perlman’s introduction to programming came early. Born on December 18, 1951 in Portsmouth, Virginia to her father, an engineer, and her mother, a mathematician and computer programmer, Dr. Perlman was a gifted student in math and science.

Capitol Tech sat down with Pam Phojanakong, an epidemiologist with a PhD from Drexel University, to discuss the challenges facing data scientists in the midst of a global pandemic. Pam currently works as a data scientist for CORMAC, a Baltimore-based data management and analytics firm, supporting a contract that works with data submitted by post-acute care providers. Pam was instrumental in developing a COVID dashboard, which looks at COVID rates compared to Census data for key occupations and social characteristics.
