Malique Barksdale: What I Love About Capitol
August 24, 2018As part of a regular series, we’re talking with students, faculty, and staff about the things that make Capitol a great place to learn, build, and succeed. Today we spoke with current student Malique Barksdale about his favorite part of going to school here. Malique is a junior at Capitol majoring in Management of Cyber and Information Technology. When he’s not making music or hanging out with his friends, Malique works as a student worker for the business office and admin services.
The first thing I like is the size of the school. I went to a boarding school for seven years and our campus is actually the exact same size as my old school’s was. I thought that was a little bit special in a way.
I would say that Capitol is a very diverse school. It’s nice to see a lot of different people from different backgrounds interact with each other. It’s a really nice thing. I came from a school with people mostly like me, but to see other people and get to know them is a great experience.
Some students may not have the opportunity to live on campus or just have housing, but we have a lot of online classes here that they could still go to school. I mean, they could be 3,000 or 10,000 miles away and still be able to take classes. I really like that about Capitol, not too many other schools have that experience. It’s just really convenient.
I think it’s nice of the school to have so many student workers. For the size of the school I think a lot of students have jobs here. The business office gave me my first legal job and that was special to me.
There’s things in every school that you can complain about, but honestly knowing me, knowing my personality, knowing things that I like and don’t like, I kind of went to the perfect school to be honest. It’s all of the little things that make Capitol what it is. Things like relationships, the online classes, and the small class sizes are some of the many things that make Capitol special. It has been the perfect school for me.
