Citing the school’s faculty and location, a respected college ranking firm has listed Capitol Technology University as offering one of the nation’s best master’s programs in computer science.
OnlineMasters.com released its 2019 survey on Thursday (January 17).
“Capitol Tech's location in the Baltimore-Washington area makes it a magnet for some of the top faculty members in the country. Students in the computer science program will learn from industry leaders of high-tech companies, government agencies and other fields to gain invaluable skills for career advancement,” the organization said.
Capitol Tech not only made the list of 40 select schools, but earned a Best Faculty designation.
“We’re excited that our program continues to build a reputation for excellence,” said Dr. Nayef Abu-Ageel, dean of academics at Capitol Tech. “Our emphasis has always been on a practical, hands-on approach to computer science education, with the goal of preparing students for the actual challenges they will encounter on the job.”
“We hire faculty who are working professionals in computer science,” Abu-Ageel said. “They are able to teach students what’s going on right now in the field – and not just what’s contained in a textbook. This designation from OnlineMasters.com is, I believe, a testament to the quality of instruction provided by our faculty, and to the dedication they bring to helping students build new skills.”
Since its inception in 1937, Capitol Tech has focused on education in emerging technology fields, including not only computer science but cybersecurity, engineering, and critical infrastructure. A pioneer in online education, it currently offers 10 online master’s degrees in formats that include both synchronous and asynchronous.
The master’s program in computer science at Capitol Tech is designed to teach students the knowledge and skills they will need in order to design and utilize modern computer-based systems. Curriculum in the program covers embedded languages, wireless technologies, data security, and miniaturization. Students have the option of specializing in information architecture, network security, or advanced computer science.
“We aim to keep the program flexible so that it can meet the needs of a variety of students,” Abu-Ageel said. “Many of our master’s students are already in the computer science profession and they’re looking to add additional expertise that can open up opportunities for advancement. Our program reflects that.”
