In his role as chief security officer at Fixmo, Capitol College doctoral student and Information Assurance advisory board member Daniel Ford is a driver of innovation. Since joining the mobile risk management company in 2012, he has worked tirelessly to further strengthen its suite of solutions.
His efforts have yielded results. In June, the US Defense Information Systems Agency awarded a $16 million contract for Mobile Device Management and Mobile Application Store (MDM/MAS) capabilities. Fixmo is a key technology provider for the program, partnering with Digital Management Incorporated (DMI).
Thanks to technology developed by Ford and his colleagues, personnel across the Department of Defense will enjoy state-of-the-art information security when they use their Android or Apple iOS devices.
The MDM/MAS program is an “important and strategic milestone for the DoD, setting the stage for wide scale mobility deployments that will truly impact operational efficiency and the effectiveness of our armed forces,” Bruce Gilley, President of Fixmo U.S., said in a press release. “Through our partners at DMI, we are proud to be a part of this expanding initiative, and look forward to helping a growing number of DoD agencies embrace the full potential of mobility without compromising security, integrity or compliance.”
Fixmo and Capitol College: A Strong Relationship
Under an agreement reached just over one year ago, Capitol College provides Fixmo with incubator space on campus. The company has employed a growing number of Capitol students, involving them in a variety of cyber security, software development and testing activities.
Fixmo will be expanding its relationship with Capitol College and its students, Capitol College Vice President of Academic Affairs William “Vic” Maconachy said.
“This is a tremendous example of establishing a special corporate partner relationship,” Maconachy said. “In the coming months we look forward to Fixmo’s expansion in our relationship. The college is always looking to provide companies the opportunity for development, employment of our students, and expansion into new markets.”
“Capitol College provides not just the hands on technical training, but also the environment for supporting and stimulating the acceleration of business ventures,” he said.
Daniel Ford has been an information security professional for more than 15 years, bringing his skills and expertise to businesses such as XM Radio, Secure Computing, McAfee, Nominum and Accuvant. He received a master’s degree in information assurance from Capitol College in 2010, and is now working on a doctorate. His dissertation is focused on enterprise smartphone security.
In January 2013, Capitol College appointed Ford to the advisory board for its Information Assurance program. The board provides a forum for communication and interaction among faculty and industry leaders, enabling then to review academic programs and consider new avenues for curriculum development.
Ford says his Capitol College experience has helped him stay ahead of the curve.
“Being an alumnus and completing my DSc at Capitol College, I understand how current cyber challenges will help shape the future direction of the program and will enable current and future students to be prepared to face the associated threats and challenges,” he said.
