Minority Innovation Weekend - #HackingInnovation



On Saturday 12 October Dr. Bill Butler (Chair of Cybersecurity) was the first speaker in the cybersecurity track for the Minority Innovation Weekend - #HackingInnovation event held at the University of Baltimore, MD. This annual event is jointly sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers - Baltimore Metropolitan Area Chapter (NSBE-BMAC). Minority Innovation Weekend is a weekend summit dedicated to aiding minority innovators launch tech-focused startups, exploring emerging technologies, and showcasing tech startups that have a minority founder or co-founder. Dr. Butler kicked off the cybersecurity track with a 45-minute talk titled “What is Cybersecurity”. This talk explained the foundations of cybersecurity, the unique concepts, terminology, and presented cybersecurity as a discipline. Bill later participated in a panel of cybersecurity experts discussing a wide range of topics of interest to the audience. This event is a major part of Capitol’s planned National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) activities. Dr. Butler will next speak at Delaware Technical Community College and NASA Goddard.
