A Letter to Our Veterans

Dear Active Duty, Reservists, National Guard members and Veterans,

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Veterans Day to honor those
who have served in the Armed Forces throughout our nation's history. We may remember from
our high school days that the United States Constitution states as one of its purposes “to provide
for the common defense”; however, it bears remembering that it takes people willing to
volunteer in the service of our nation to perform that common defense. There has not been a
military draft in the United States since January of 1973.

Capitol Technology University wishes to thank the students, faculty, staff and alumni
who have served, or are currently serving, in uniform from all branches: Army, Navy, Marine
Corps, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard and National Guard. Your sacrifices, large and
small, have helped ensure safety, security and prosperity for our citizens and our friends around
the globe.

My own military service began on the parade field of Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, in
1980. While my initial reasons for joining were economic, over the next 29 years I found the Air
Force offered excellent opportunities for educational and professional growth. Today, I have
three sons serving in the Air Force and one son in the Navy continuing our family tradition.
Armed Forces members past and present continue to enjoy the widespread support and
gratitude of the US public.

May we continue to uphold the honor, dignity and values instilled in
us through our military service and reflect back to our communities the respect and appreciation
shown to us.

Thank you for your service!

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Urdzik, MAS, Lt Col, USAF (ret)
