Greater Baltimore Committee CEO and Capitol College Leadership Advisory Council member, Donald C. Fry, has been chosen by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley to serve as chairman of the commission that will choose the locations and operators of Maryland slot machine parlors.
Just as his leadership experience afforded him a seat on the LAC at Capitol, it will also help him to lead the seven-member Video Lottery Facility Location Commission, charged with reviewing the bids of developers seeking to build slots parlors.
Fry, a prominent regional business advocate, had urged voters to support slots during the campaign for the November referendum legalizing the parlors. He and many state leaders said slots were a necessary new source of revenue to close perennial budget shortfalls. Voters approved the measure last month.
Fry has significant experience in regional business and government. He has headed the regional business advocacy group since 2002, and was a state delegate from Harford County from 1991 to 1997 and state senator from 1997 to 1998.
He also serves on the Maryland Port Commission as well as the boards of Harford Mutual Insurance Companies, St. Joseph’s Medical Center, the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association, University of Maryland Shock Trauma Board of Trustees, Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake and CollegeBound.
