Dr. Butler to Speak at 2nd EDEN Community AI Cybersecurity Event May 14

On Tuesday, May 14, the Europol Data Protection Experts Network (EDEN), will be hosting their 2nd EDEN Community Event, “Generative AI: Emerging Topics of Cybersecurity, Privacy and Cybercrime.” Capitol Technology University’s Vice President of Cyber Science Outreach and Partnerships and Executive Director for Capitol’s Center for Cybersecurity Research and Analysis (CCRA) Dr. Bill Butler has been invited as a panelist speaker for the event.

During this one-hour session, participants will learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on data protection, privacy, and compliance; AI implications, opportunities, and challenges for cybersecurity; AI and its possible misuse by cybercriminals and nation states; AI laws, regulations, and policy in 2024 and beyond; and the future of AI.

Dr. Butler is a strong advocate for cyber education and has spearheaded several initiatives throughout his impressive 30+ year career in cybersecurity. His impact on the field extends beyond academia into the very fabric of the cybersecurity world, and he is a key player in elite groups like the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), several NIST standards groups, the Colloquium of Information Systems Security Education (CISSE), and CyberWatch, contributing his expertise to national and global cybersecurity standards.

Internationally, Dr. Butler is a mentor to doctoral students and a bridge-builder through educational partnerships across continents, from Kosovo to Cameroon, as a Fulbright Cyber Specialist. His expertise and dedication have been instrumental in leading the university's cyber programs, students, partnerships, and funding to excellence and success.

Recently, Dr. Butler's collaboration with local middle schools contributed to the success of our annual STEM Challenge, which encourages our youth to become the next generation of innovators and leaders in STEM. He has been a guest speaker at several prestigious events including a recent roundtable discussion hosted by the White House’s Office of the National Cybersecurity Directorate (ONCD), where our university’s efforts to strengthen the cybersecurity workforce and educate more teachers across the nation were highlighted.

At the EDEN Community Event, Dr. Butler will be joined by presenters from George Mason University, EU CyberNet, Latin America and Caribbean Cyber Competence Centre (LAC4), Cybercrime Atlas at World Economic Forum (WEF), and more.
