On Saturday May 4th, graduating students of Capitol Technology University will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. It’s a formal recognition of their hard work and achievements and we can’t wait to celebrate! The ceremony, to be held on the Capitol campus in Laurel, Maryland starting at 9:45 am, will be streamed live on YouTube and covered throughout the day on Capitol’s various social media platforms.
The class of 2019 includes more than 190 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree students, representing a broad range of business, computer science, engineering, and information technology fields.
They will be addressed by commencement speaker Steve Geppi, president and CEO of Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. A Baltimore native, Mr. Geppi started from the ground up, opening Geppi’s Comic World, a small store on Edmondson Avenue, in 1974. By 1982, he decided to move into distribution where he effectively expanded his comic book distribution business to over 28 cities across North America and Europe. Today Diamond Comic Distributors is the world’s largest distributor of English-language comics, serving as the exclusive distributor for many of the comic industry’s leading publishers including DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics and Image Comics.
Dr. Bradford L. Sims, Capitol’s eighth president, will lead the ceremony supported by university Marshal, Dr. Alexander “Sandy” Antunes. Many members of our faculty and staff as well as our Board of Trustees will be in attendance.
Commencement at Capitol is open to the public, and all alumni, friends and supporters of the university are invited to attend. This on-campus event will take place outside, regardless of weather with an indoor/outdoor reception to follow. Information for students and their families can be found here.
For those who would like to watch the event remotely, Capitol will be streaming the commencement proceedings via YouTube. The live link will be available on commencement day, and can be accessed via Capitol’s YouTube channel, Facebook page, and Twitter feed. We will also be posting photos throughout the day on our various social media platforms. You can join in with us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook with the hashtag: #CapTechU2019.
Although commencement this year does fall on Star Wars day and National Comic Book day, this is a formal event and we are encouraging everyone to please dress appropriately. We love our geeks and are aiming to have a few little nods to the extra geeky day that do not interrupt the formal ceremony and will allow attendees to choose to participate or not.
