For Immediate Release

Howard County, April 17, 2024 - Power52 Foundation, a leading 501c3 non-profit organization committed to empowering communities through education and workforce development, and Capitol Technology University, a renowned institution renowned for its commitment to technological innovation and academic excellence, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a strategic partnership. The partnership will provide Power52 graduates with an opportunity to receive entry into a college program and course credits in pursuit of a Capitol Technology University degree.

The MOU outlines a collaborative effort between Power52 Foundation and Capitol Technology University to promote educational opportunities and career advancement. This partnership signifies a commitment to fostering growth, innovation, and empowerment within communities through education.

As an integral part of Power52's five-year strategic plan, the primary focus is on scaling their training initiatives to extend invaluable opportunities to marginalized community members, particularly in terms of economic empowerment. Their commitment extends beyond mere education; it's about creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods and long-term prosperity for individuals who have historically faced barriers to accessing such opportunities.

Capitol Technology University is a STEM-focused institution of higher education, providing undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering, information sciences, and technology leadership, that has flexibility and opportunities to grow, and that adapts offerings to emerging workforce needs. The University’s vision includes being closely linked to its constituency of local, regional, and national partners in business, government, non-profits, and professions that provide influence for future technology development and policies.

Under this partnership, Power52 graduates will benefit from a multifaceted support system aimed at facilitating their educational journey and fostering their personal and professional growth. One key aspect of this support system is the provision of college credits for the training they undergo at Power52. This recognition not only validates their hard work but also opens doors to further academic pursuits and career advancement. Through reduced tuition rates, staff support, and access to scholarships, Power52 graduates are equipped with the necessary resources to pursue their academic aspirations without being encumbered by financial constraints.

Cherie Brooks, President & CEO of Power52 Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "We are thrilled to collaborate with Capitol Technology University to expand educational opportunities and support the career aspirations of our graduates. This partnership exemplifies our shared commitment to empowering individuals through education and skills development."

Dr. Bradford L. Sims, President of Capitol Technology University, stated his commitment: “To me the most rewarding aspect of higher education is that you can build an opportunity for somebody who may not otherwise have had such an opportunity.”

"Education is the cornerstone of empowerment, lighting the path towards limitless possibilities. Through strategic partnerships like the one with Capitol Technology University, we're not just shaping futures; we're igniting them.", said Ms. Brooks.
