Capitol Technology University held its Fall 2024 Astronautical and Space Engineering (ASE) Industry Advisory Board meeting on November 15. Our new ASE Program Director Jeff Volosin has worked to expand this group of industry advisors to include a broad spectrum of the aerospace community. Engaging with these industry leaders and soliciting their advice and insights is key to ensuring our ASE curriculum and lab activities are focused on providing students with the training and skills they need to be successful in today’s rapidly evolving aerospace industry.
Discussions during this fall meeting ranged from approaches to teaching Model Based Systems Engineering skills, to the types of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity training that would be most valuable for ASE students. Capitol Tech’s ASE program has greatly benefited over the years from industry advisors and investors. Organizations such as The Hammers Company have been instrumental in supporting the ASE program in the development of unique lab capabilities, where students engage with “virtual” satellites learning how spacecraft are designed as well as how to troubleshoot spacecraft and ground system issues. Others, such as ASRC Federal, General Dynamics Mission Systems, KBR, and Technology Project Managers Inc., have selected our ASE students as interns, providing them with great hands-on experience. Others have regularly attended our Career Fairs, actively looking for ASE students to recruit for their companies.
We would like to thank the following organizations for participating on the Capitol Tech ASE Industry Advisory Board:
The Hammers Company
ASRC Federal
KBR
SAIC
General Dynamics Mission Systems
Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL)
Technology Project Managers, Inc. (TPM)
Performance & Technology Xcellence (PTX)
Our ASE Industry Advisory Board will meet again in Spring 2025 (date to be announced). From participating on the Industry Advisory Board, attending our Career Fairs, being a guest lecturer, mentoring students, or making us aware of aerospace-focused internships with your company, we encourage companies to reach out to Professor Jeff Volosin to learn how you can engage with our program and help us in continuing to produce talented graduates that can benefit your organization!
