On Saturday, September 11th, Capitol had over 150 visitors on campus for the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Maryland Championship Tournament spearheaded my Maryland FIRST. The diverse group included middle school students, team coaches and mentors. The event was coordinated by Jeff Tjiputra, DSc professor and chair of the business and technology division at the College of Southern Maryland.

The Maryland branch of FIRST is a non-profit organization that uses robotics and exciting sports-like competitions to help students develop the skills they need to compete in the technology-driven global economy.

Maryland has more than 250 FIRST teams, from kindergarten through 12th grade, ages 6-18. FIRST programs use robotics as the vehicle to engage students in the hands-on, minds-on creative process of technological innovation.

Thanks to Tony Miller, George Walls, Harry Trapp and Allen Exner for coordinating the event here at Capitol.
