Capitol College will be participating in the 6th annual Gorgeous Prince George's Day event, part of the county's Livable Communities Initiative, being held on Saturday, October 18.
The LCI is Prince George's County's strategic plan that guides, supports and assists the government, residents and businesses in creating and implementing principles that will result in a healthy, safe, and litter-free environment. It also promotes more livable communities in Prince George's County.
"One of the major goals of my administration has been to focus on maintaining clean, healthy and safe environments for the citizens and residents of our great county," wrote County Executive, Jack Johnson. "Through our annual Gorgeous Prince George's Day event, we have planted some 155,170 trees, shrubs and flowers, establishing PG County as a leader in promoting healthy and green neighborhoods."
This year will represent Capitol's first as a participating organization. During the event, students and staff will work together to plant new flora on the campus, including 100 spring bulbs and 20 crape myrtle trees. Organizations and individuals around the county will be planting an assortment of willow oaks, red maples, daffodils, cherry laurel, eastern red cedar and Virginia sweetspire.
Capitol students, faculty and staff, and others countywide are invited to participate in the activities from 8 a.m. through 11:30 a.m., rain or shine. At the end of the remarkable day, a celebration will be held at the Historic Bladensburg Waterfront Park at noon.
Students who would like to be a part of this event should contact Che Vaughn (cvaughn@capitol-college.edu). For more information on Gorgeous Prince George's Day, and to sign up as a participating organization, visit the LCI homepage, contact jbbeck@co.pg.md.us or call 301-772-4880.
