Aviation and Space Engineering Students Meet with Maryland Lt. Governor

Capitol Technology University Professors Jeff Volosin, Director of Astronautical and Space Engineering and Frank Turney, Department Chair of Aviation, as well as five of our students were recently invited to attend a roundtable discussion with the Maryland Lt. Governor, Aruna Miller. The Maryland Aerospace Industry and Education Roundtable was held on October 23 in collaboration with the Maryland Departments of Commerce, Labor, and the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The event took place at the UMD campus and featured lunch, networking, and lively discussions on the educational and workforce development needs of the aerospace and technology industries with Maryland colleges and universities.

Capitol Tech students Zoe Denito, Philip Alsop, and Eddie Zhou represented our ASE Program and Sampuk Rai Kirant and Aliana Miller represented our Aviation Program. They had the opportunity to speak with Maryland's government and aerospace industry leaders and discuss their experiences and challenges in trying to enter the aerospace workforce. Lt. Governor Miller listened intently as student representatives from several colleges throughout the state spoke and gave presentations. On behalf of Capitol Tech, Zoe Denito and Sam Rai Kirant gave outstanding, engaging speeches. Capitol Tech faculty members utilized this opportunity to interact with faculty from other universities that also have aerospace-focused programs, seeking ways to build stronger bonds between these institutions to the benefit of our collective students.
