The Capitol College community thanked scholarship benefactors and scholarship students at its annual Scholarship Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, April 11. Gathering in the William G. McGowan Center, students, benefactors, faculty and staff celebrated the achievements of Capitol scholars and the generosity of those who help make their education possible.
The event kicked off with Dr. Michael T. Wood, president, welcoming those in attendance. Wood highlighted some of the recent successes of the college, including the growth of the doctoral program.
Following Wood was Capitol alumnus Sotiris Baxevanis ’88, who currently holds the title of chief technology officer at UniSpec and was formerly the president of ISSA-NOVA. Baxevanis shared some details from his own time at Capitol and how it has affected his career. He discussed finding his career passion early, and how Capitol’s electrical engineering program helped him achieve his career aspirations.
Avrum Gudelsky Scholarship recipient Robert Binick ’12, was the next to take the podium and thank those in attendance. Binick not only thanked benefactors for their financial support, but also thanked the faculty and staff members who have helped make his Capitol experience.
Benefactors representing the following scholarships were in attendance: the Anthony & Anna L. Carozza Foundation Scholarship, the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber Scholarship, Gabriel A. Battista Scholarship, the ISSA-NOVA Scholarship, the Karl R. Peterson Memorial Scholarship, the Leonard Jarrell Memorial Scholarship, the M&T Bank Foundation Scholarship, the Motorola Foundation Scholarship, the Patrick Gibbon Memorial Scholarship, the Patton Scholarship, the Radio Club of America and the John and Mary Dettra Fund Scholarship.
