Dr. Jeff Chi

Construction ManagementDr. Chi, a seasoned leader with over 40 years of industry expertise, has brought a wealth of experience in construction, engineering, and real estate development to Capitol Technology University's Construction Management Department. Prior to joining Capitol, Dr. Chi imparted his knowledge as a professor of construction management at Ferris State University in Michigan.
From 2006 to 2023, Dr. Chi excelled as the Senior Vice President of Operations for one of the top 400 General Contractors in the United States, as ranked by Engineering News-Record (ENR). In his role as Director of Corporate Projects and Environmental at the May Department Stores Company (now Macy’s), he led new construction and capital facility management projects, spearheaded a comprehensive environmental and sustainability program, and played a pivotal role in major mergers and acquisitions of national retailers.
In the early stages of his illustrious career, Dr. Chi held key positions such as design team leader, senior contract manager, and project manager. He provided his expertise to petrochemical and energy corporations, real estate developers, and an international engineering firm on various significant projects both in the United States and overseas.
Dr. Chi's academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a BS in Structural Engineering from Tongji University, an MS in Construction Science from the University of Oklahoma, an MBA from Texas A&M University, and a PhD in Project Management from the University of Maryland. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Facility Management Association, Maryland Structural Engineers Association, Facility Engineering Association, Maryland Realtors Association, National Retail Federation, Urban Land Institute, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Passionate about mentoring, Dr. Chi is dedicated to guiding students and young professionals towards successful career development and leadership in the industry. Outside of academia, he enjoys playing sports, classical music, and traveling with his family.
