Dr. Ashley Babcock is the inaugural Dean of Capitol Technology University’s Graduate School. With nearly 20 years of higher education experience, she has put students first while employing an inclusive, servant leadership approach to create a learning environment that fosters relevant learning experiences, personal and professional advancement, and lifelong learning. Dr. Babcock has mentored over 100 online doctoral students as a dissertation chair or subject matter expert, and she actively collaborates with students, alumni, and faculty to present and publish research. Her research focuses on student retention, student and faculty engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) with a focus on adult, online graduate students. Dr. Babcock was one of the first presidents and founders of the Maryland Learning Center Association, an affiliate of the National Learning Center Association.

Dr. Babcock has extensive experience leading faculty as a department chair, associate dean, and dean. She has led a remote team of more than 170 graduate, online faculty members with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and viewpoints, as they served a continual enrollment of over 7,000 graduate (primarily doctoral) students. These faculty reside across the United States and several countries, and Dr. Babcock has successfully created a culture of belonging and transparency in a fully online capacity.

Dr. Babcock has mentored over 100 online doctoral students successfully from beginning to completion as a dissertation chair or subject matter expert, and she actively collaborates with students, alumni, and faculty to present and publish research. Her research agenda focuses on student retention, student and faculty engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) with a focus on adult, online graduate students. She has taught on-ground, hybrid, and online courses to diverse student populations, including adult learners, non-native speakers, and international students. She has demonstrated success in leading faculty to utilize best practices in teaching for multiple modalities.

In addition to being a proven academic leader, Dr. Babcock is a strong academic operator. She is an exceptional administrator with a keen sense for policy and procedure that creates efficiency—a crucial building block needed in the new Graduate School. She understands assessment and its role in continuous improvement—another key building block needed in the Grad School. She understands Middle States Accreditation intimately, having recently served as co-chair for a reaccreditation self-study and qualified as a Middle States peer evaluator.

Dr. Babcock earned her Doctorate in Education (EdD) in Higher Education Administration from Argosy, Arlington, VA, Master of Arts in English Literature from Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, and Bachelor of Arts in English/Creative Writing (Magna Cum Laude) – along with a Certificate of Advanced Honors in General Education—from Widener University in Chester, PA.  

She resides in northern Virginia with her husband, two kids, and dog.
