Alumni Voice: Doctor of Science Degree "opened many new opportunities"
January 22, 2020“The world is full of information technology-related technical puzzles that need solving and I derive great pleasure from finding solutions to those problems,” says Dr. Steven Wood who is able to solve such puzzles daily through his career as a digital forensic expert on an international level.
Dr. Wood started in the technology field working on U.S. Army ground-to-ground missile systems where he hunted defects to ensure that munitions were always ready to fire. This search for answers to complicated and obscure problems awoke Dr. Wood's drive to find solutions. While still in the Army, Dr. Wood performed his first digital examination on a Unix based system to determine why data transmitted to a higher echelon was not arriving correctly.
After his second Purple Heart incident, Dr. Wood was forced to retire from the Army due to the wounds he received in combat. He continued his education earning a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, a Master of Science in Computer Information System and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity: Computer Forensics and Cyber Intelligence. While completing these degrees, Dr. Wood continued to work around the world in digital forensics examining evidence and teaching others to do the same.
These degrees and years of first-hand experience, weren't enough to quench Dr. Wood's thirst for enhanced knowledge and the next great puzzle in need of solving. While he could have done a thesis-only degree in Europe at no cost, he selected Capitol Technology University instead.
“I decided to attempt the Doctor of Science in Cybersecurity degree to demonstrate that I had reached the pinnacle of my field” says Dr. Wood. “Not only did I want the structure offered by this institution, but Capitol is highly respected in the U.S. government circles in which I work,” Dr. Wood added.
“This degree not only satisfied my drive to reach the highest level but has opened many new opportunities I never dreamed of,” said Dr. Wood who is adamant that “a Doctor of Science degree from CapTechU is worth every ounce of sweat, every bit of stress, and every dollar spent.”
