Capitol Tech's Dean of Doctoral Programs, Dr. Ian McAndrew, has been invited to chair a new society, the International Mechanical Aeronautics and Astronautics Society (IMAAS). Capitology Blog sat down with Dr. McAndrew to discuss this honor.

Lisa Mae Brunson has been committed to providing a space for underrepresented populations in STEM, including women, people of color, and members of the queer community since she noticed the disparity in representation while looking for STEAM speakers for the Wonder Women Tech conference she created in 2015.

Our critical infrastructure OT systems have legacy computer systems.  To make the problem worse, many OT systems operators are connecting these systems to the information technology (IT) enterprises without cybersecurity planning.  The breach of Oldsmar, Florida Water System by malicious attackers.  These hackers accessed the chemical feed system and increased the sodium hydroxide (lye) to unsafe levels. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. 

There are many avenues that can be taken to pursue a degree in information technology. Computer science was one of the first, having been around since mainframe computers were first invented in the 60s. Since then, fields of study in IT have expanded greatly, including the rapidly growing field of data science. But what exactly are the differences between computer science (CS) and data science?

Today, February 9, 2021, is the 18th annual Safer Internet Day, an initiative that began as the EU SafeBorders project and is now championed by the Insafe network. Safer Internet Day was started in 2004 to “raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns." This year’s theme is "Together for a better internet," so Capitol Tech wanted to join the 170 countries who celebrate Safer Internet Day around the world.

For what seems to be an entirely hands-on industry, it may appear odd that the 2021 Design & Construction Week, which takes place this week from February 9-12 will be virtual, but this multifaceted industry has incorporated digital services across careers. This event serves as a venue for construction and design professionals to share ideas about residential and commercial construction and design.

Machine learning (ML) is the capability of systems to automatically learn and improve from experience independently, without human intervention. Used with artificial intelligence, the capabilities of machine learning are endless.

February is commonly known as a month-long celebration of Black History Month, but February is also when Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month® is celebrated. CTE encompasses any field of study that prepares students for “high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers” according to the Association for Career & Technical Education (ACTE).
