Capitol Kicks Off Year Two of Career Mentor Program

This week, Capitol College kicked off the second year of its Career Mentor Program which pairs Capitol students with alumni and professionals from various industries. In the first year of the program, mentors were chosen from ISSA-NOVA (Information Systems Security Association – Northern Virginia Chapter), and in the second year, Capitol College alumni are also serving as mentors.

Students are strategically placed with mentors who work in the field in which they’d like to pursue a career. Mentors advise students on which classes to take, where to look for internships and how to prepare for their careers. Students are required to meet twice monthly with their mentors and are encouraged to keep an open dialogue throughout the academic year.

During the program, students learn to set priorities, develop a professional profile, explore career options within their chosen degree focus, identify professional networking contacts, and identify strengths and areas of improvement.

In the program’s first year, six students participated. This year, Capitol has paired 12 students with mentors.
