Disability Support Services

The dean of student life and retention serves as coordinator for disability support services and learning accommodations. The coordinator's responsibility is to help students with special needs or learning differences gain equal access to college services and programs. If you have been diagnosed with a physical or learning disability and require academic or counseling support services, contact the dean's office.

Requesting Accommodations

Students requesting accommodations must do so in writing 30 days prior to the start of classes. Appropriate documentation will be required.  Documentation must be from a licensed health or mental health care provider or a previous education institution.  Documentation should include diagnosis and recommended accommodations.  Reasonable and appropriate accommodations will be based on the request for accommodations, the supporting documentation, discussion with the student and the essential learning outcomes of the relevant program, courses or activity.

Receiving Accommodations

Should a student be granted reasonable accommodations, the dean of student life and retention will send notice of accommodations to the students faculty members each semester.  Students who choose to discuss the accommodations with their faculty should schedule an appointment with the faculty member to ensure confidentiality.  Student’s granted reasonable accommodations are encouraged to maintain regular contact with the dean of student life, especially during their first year.

Student Responsibilities

Students should inform the dean of student life and retention as soon as possible of any needs or changes.  Students have the right to appeal decisions regarding accommodations and auxiliary aids.
