Internet Engineering (MS)
Graduates will be able to employ theoretical principles, mathematical techniques and scientific methods to predict and analyze the performance of telecommunications systems, as well as design systems according to certain specifications.
Graduates will be able to effectively communicate their ideas in both written and oral form with the understanding that communication is a cooperative process.
By modeling and simulating telecommunications systems and networks, graduates will be able to identify and solve problems in real telecommunications systems and networks. Graduates will also be able to apply computer and electrical engineering techniques towards problem solving within telecommunications systems and networks.
Life-long Learning Objective
Graduates will recognize that life-long learning is essential to the ongoing process of professional and personal development.
Graduates will be able to operate and manage telecommunications networks, projects and personnel. The ability to use project management tools and techniques as well as formulate and measure milestones and deliverables is emphasized.
Professional Ethics Objective
Graduates will have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities, as well as an understanding of the possible social, economic, cultural and environmental impact of their engineering solutions in a global context.
Graduates will be able to take a telecommunications project from inception to completion including recognizing the problem and designing a solution upon which they build, test, modify and verify that the solution meets system requirements.
Graduates will have strong information literacy and will possess the ability to know when information is needed, how to use it, and how and where to retrieve it.
Graduates will be able to use security tools in maintaining network integrity and sustainability. Graduates will also be able to implement cryptographic and error-correction techniques in a wide variety of situations and applications.
Graduates will be able to use state-of-the-art telecommunications diagnostic equipment in the identification and troubleshooting of a physical, electrical or networking problem.
Upon graduation, students will have:
